ROUND 3 OF THE BRIGHTON ACADEMY 2014: JOB AND ASEFI TAKE THE VICTORIES!

Cadets:

Jacob Alexander made a good start from pole position and made his way into the lead ahead of Kourosh Asefi. Alexander managed to maintain this lead for the first half of the race but had Asefi right behind him keeping him under pressure. This made Alexander drive defensively and Asefi used this to his advantage. After Alexander tried to park the kart at the apex of the hairpin, Asefi drove round the outside of him and overtook him in a drag race up the hill.

Asefi was then able to pull a small gap and held his position until the end to take the win by 1.7 seconds.

Sebastian Job took the win in the final after starting from pole position. Job made a good start with Matthew Emery and Kieran Chidgzey right behind and there was a three way battle for the lead at the start, with Christopher Illingworth not far behind in fourth.
Job and Emery gradually started to pull away and there was a great battle for the lead. Emery made contact at the final corner but didn't gain an advantage and so he escaped with just a warning.

Shortly after he was briefly able to take the lead at the penultimate hairpin, only for Job to take him straight back.

This allowed Chidgzey to close the gap but he was unable to join the fight and the order stayed the same until the flag.

ROUND 2 OF THE SOUTHAMPTON ACADEMY 2014: BAMBERG TAKES VICTORY IN THE JUNIORS AND BILLINGS TAKES A CLEAN SWEEP!

Cadets:

During the heats Jordan Billings put in a fantastic performance to take a clean sweep of three victories, giving him pole position for the Final.

At the start of the Cadet Final it was a good start from all the drivers and was very close going into the first corner with Matthew Lewington losing out as he ran out of space on the inside, which dropped him down the order. At the end of the

Racing Perfection Kart Academy Eastleigh Cadet Final Podium - Round 2

first lap it was Billings leading, closely followed by Zaak Mirza and Kourosh Asefi. The top three were very closely matched with each trading fastest laps in the early stages. As the race started to settled down Lewington started to claw back at the gap to the top three and within a few laps was back onto the tail of the lead group, however no driver was leaving any space for an overtake.

In the last few laps Billings couldn’t break clear of the rest of the drivers so started to defend heavily to try and keep his lead, which bunched the group up even more and made for a very close finish with Billings clinging on take victory, Mirza second and Asefi third.

Racing Perfection Kart Academy Eastleigh Juniors Final Podium - Round 2
Juniors:
During the heats the victories went to Callum McNeil, Brandon Billings and Adam Bamberg, however it was Bamberg that took pole position for the Final with two wins and a third with McNeil lining up alongside him in second.

At the start of the Junior Final Bamberg and McNeil both got away well to slot into first and second. Behind, Lewis Halliday got a great start from third, however lost of the back of the kart going into the first corner, which dropped him

down the order. As the race started to settle down the lead group of Bamberg, McNeil and now Billings started to pull clear of the rest of the pack. Behind, Sam Collins was making good progress through the field and found himself in fourth place with Halliday close behind after clawing back positions after his early spin.

In the closing stages of the race the battle for the podium positions became very close, which slowed the pace down and enabled both Collins and Halliday to catch and make it a five-kart battle for the lead. Each driver was not leaving any space until McNeil left a small gap, just enough for Billings to slip through to take second and at the line it was Bamberg that took a lights to flag victory, Billings second and McNeil third.

Racing Perfection Kart Academy Eastleigh Cadet Final Podium - Round 2
On lap 7 Asefi made a move on Soares at the final corner but had to hit the brakes to avoid contact after going for a closing gap, causing Asefi to spin. This allowed Klein Nagelvoort to move up to second ahead of Asefi and Poole, although Poole managed to take back second place on the final lap. It was Soares who held onto the victory, taking a hard fought lights to flag win.

The front two then started to pull clear of the rest of the pack with very quick lap times being traded between the two. Behind, the train of karts was being lead by Smith, who had to go quickly defensive to try and keep Chidgzey and Amin at
bay, however Amin managed to make his way passed but in the process picked up a black flag.

As the race started to settle down the front two were glued together and had built up a seven second lead on the main pack, Chidgzey had managed to pull clear of the rest of the pack to put himself in a strong third place. In the closing of the race it was still anyone’s to win with nothing separating the top two, however as the drivers made their way onto the last lap they caught a back marker, which blocked the path of Job up the hill, which enabled Glover to get a run around the outside to take the lead and take the victory at the line by only 0.08 of a second. Chidgzey completed the podium with a strong third place.

SEB ALGIERI AND THOMAS WYLIE IMPRESS ON THEIR CLUB RACING DEBUTS!

Sebastian Algieri & Thomas Wylie

Academy program drivers Seb Algieri and Thomas Wylie have put in stunning performances on their Club racing debuts with the Racing Perfection team! After successfully passing their ARKS tests and overcoming ‘monsoon’ weather conditions at the Clay Pigeon circuit on the 27th July, both drivers were set for a strong debut at the Forest Edge race meeting last weekend.

During the Saturday test both drivers started putting in competitive times for top novice in their class and by the end of practice were already performing higher than expected.

During the races both Algieri and Wylie competed in three heats from the back of the pack, due to the novice plate restrictions, however both drivers made good progress in their heats to line up in strong positions for the B Final. As the race got underway Algieri got a great start to move up to fifth place with Wylie close behind. Algieri had a large gap to bridge, however he managed to close down fourth and make a comfortable pass to take the position and with it promotion to the A Final!

Steve Bell, Team Principal at Racing Perfection “I am really impressed with Seb’s and Thomas’s performances at both Clay and Forest. They have adapted really quickly to the outdoor karts and have gone faster than ever predicted and it was fantastic to see Seb qualify for the A Final in his first ever race weekend. It is a big step to go from indoor karts to these types of race karts, however both drivers made it look easy and were comfortably out racing drivers with much more experience than themselves and were setting times that would normally take other drivers around a year to achieve, this was very impressive!”

The drivers are now gearing themselves up for the next meeting, which is taking place on Sunday 1st September. To keep up-to-date with all the team drivers you can either view the race results or watch the live feed on race day via http://www.fekc.co.uk or keep up to date via our news feed.

ROUND 3 OF THE BRIGHTON ACADEMY 2013: LONGLEY TAKES MAIDEN VICTORY AND EMERY TAKES CHAMPIONSHIP LEAD IN THE CADETS!

Cadets:
During the heats it was Emery, Wylie and Algieri that took the wins and they were also matched on points going into the Final with each driver achieving a first, second and third place finishes in their heats, which meant the grid for the top three in the Final had to be decided on the driver’s fastest laps set during the heats. At the start of the Cadet Final all the drivers got away well from the line, however it was Algieri that took the early lead, closely followed by Emery with Wylie and Poole battling for third. As the race started to settle down Algieri had to

Racing Perfection Kart Academy Brighton Cadet Final Podium - Round 3
defend his position from Emery who was looking strong and going into turn six Emery spotted a small gap and dived up the inside to take the lead. Behind, the battle for third was very close with Poole trying to find away past Wylie and saw his opportunity going into turn one and went up the inside, however misjudged the gap on the entry and clipped his kart against the inside barrier, which caused him to spin out and drop down the order. This promoted Halliday up into fourth place and in the closing stages of the race was right on the back bumper of Wylie and managed to pull off a good pass to take third place. As the drivers went into the final lap Emery had to go defensive to try and keep his first place and as they exited the tunnel Algieri got a great run on Emery up to the line, however Emery just managed to keep his nose ahead to take a photo finish. Behind, Wylie was looking to set up a last lap pass, however Halliday had built up just enough of a margin to take the final step on the podium.

On the restart Longley got the jump on the rest of the pack as they battled. At the middle
stage of the race, gaps had started to develop between the top three drivers with Longley now enjoying a comfortable lead, which he just had to manage till the end, Young had managed to pull clear of the rest of the pack, however the battle for third was still very close and in the closing stages of the race Groves managed to pull off a move up the inside into the final turn to take third place. At the line Longley took a strong victory, Young second and Groves third.

2012 BRIGHTON JUNIOR ACADEMY CHAMPION STEPS UP TO JUNIOR MAX!

Oscar Thorpe - Racing Perfection Driver

The 2012 Brighton Junior Academy Champion Oscar Thorpe successfully competed for the first time for the team at the famous Buckmore Park circuit on the weekend. After winning the Buckmore Park Honda Cadet Clubman Championship in 2010 Oscar stepped out of competing at Club level Karting for several seasons and then entered the Racing Perfection Kart Academy program after being spotted by Steve Bell of Racing Perfection at his local indoor Kart track at the beginning of 2012. Oscar then went on to hone his skills within the Academy program and won the 2012 Junior Brighton Academy Championship, earning him a test with the team in a Junior Max race Kart. At the test, which was held at the Clay Pigeon Kart circuit near Dorchester, Oscar really impressed the team and was offered the opportunity to compete for the team at the first round of the Buckmore Park summer championship.

The first round of the summer championship was living up to its name with glorious sunshine and warm temperatures, which were a welcome change from the freezing conditions of previous weeks. After several years away it may have been thought that it could take a few sessions to shake of the cobwebs and adjust to the new kart, however Oscar swiftly adapted to the new kart and was quickly one of the pace setters and a driver to watch throughout the meeting.

Steve Bell, Team Principal of Racing Perfection stated “Oscar has shown great talent throughout his time with the team and the program and is always an exciting driver to watch on track. He has adapted really well to the Junior Max, it was a big step in performance from what he had previously driven, however he approached it very maturely and adapted well to the new challenge. Oscar also showed great development throughout the race weekend and was highlighted as a driver to watch”.

After a number of good results Oscar is now in a great position and a clear contender for the 2013 Summer Championship.

In the closing stages of the race Groves had been putting in consistently quick laps to build a comfortable margin out front, however behind there were some very close battles throughout the field with Job now applying pressure to Young, however Young was still defending well and was keeping Job at bay, which also allowed Longley to latch onto the back of the duo and catch Job by surprise with a late move, however Job instantly dived straight back up the inside to take the position back from Longley. CONGRATULATIONS MATT!

Congratulations to Matt Flowers on clinching the 2012 Ginetta G20 Championship title by over 125 points!

Alongside being one of the instructors at both the Southampton and Brighton Academies Matt has been competing in the Ginetta Challenge,

Racing Perfection Kart Academy Brighton Cadet Final Podium - Round 10

which travels to iconic circuits such as Brands Hatch, Silverstone, Oulton Park and many more. The season started well for Matt at Oulton Park taking all three wins and building a lead in the championship that he held all season. More victories followed at Rockingham and Brands Hatch before another great weekend at Cadwell Park saw a nearly perfect meeting with two victories and a second place from three pole positions.

A difficult weekend at Snetterton saw Matt fail to take a win for the only weekend of the season. However Matt quickly bounced back with some great races with Mark Wania at Silverstone, which saw the pair demonstrate fantastic race craft by racing side by side for the majority of the race with Matt taking one win and two second places over the weekend and he then finished the season with another great win at Donington.

In total Matt netted 18 podium finishes from 19 races, taking 9 wins and 13 poles along the way. Matt said; “It's been a fantastic season, it's gone better than any of us could have predicted. We feel we've been the quickest car at every track which was reflected in getting pole in all but one of the races and our reliability has been superb, finishing off the podium in only one race. I would like to thank my Dad for his help in preparing a quick and reliable car, which has allowed me to achieve 33 consecutive top 6 finishes and 52 races since a retirement”

Matt now turns his attentions towards the 2013 season, “I'm hoping to be able to move up to the G40 class and I have started team talks. It will be a big step up but I'm confident that I can carry my form from this season into it. I'm hoping to raise the money to do it but could do with another sponsor!”
